My Feline Gifts from Bast: A Divine Connection

Moving into a new flat is always a whirlwind of boxes and decisions.

For me, this particular move was even more significant. I was on the cusp of bringing new life into my home, specifically, some feline companions. It was during this very period of transition and eager anticipation that a profound belief solidified in my heart: my two cats, the ones who would soon grace my life, were not just pets. They were gifts from Bast, my matron goddess.

For those unfamiliar, Bast, or Bastet, is the ancient Egyptian goddess of home, fertility, childbirth, domesticity, cats, and protection. She's often depicted as a domestic cat, embodying both fierce protection and gentle nurturing. As someone who resonates deeply with her energy, the timing of my cats' arrival felt like more than a coincidence.

I had been contemplating getting cats for a while, feeling the quiet void in my new space that only a purring companion could fill. Then, as if orchestrated by a divine hand, my two beloved felines entered the world precisely when I was setting up my new home, making the decision to welcome them. This alignment of events felt incredibly personal and spiritual.

And then there are the cats themselves. They are unlike any I have ever known. I've known many cats over the years, each with their own distinct personality, but these two are truly unique. They are the epitome of what I needed, and what I had always hoped for in a feline companion: affectionate, loving, and remarkably calm. They greet me with soft purrs and gentle headbutts, always seeking closeness. They are a constant source of comfort and warmth, transforming my home into a true sanctuary.

Perhaps the most astonishing aspect of their temperament is their complete lack of aggression. In all the time they've been with me, they have never scratched or bitten. This might sound unbelievable to many cat owners, who are familiar with the occasional playful nip or a protest scratch. But my two, they are pure gentle souls, their claws retracted, their teeth only for their food. This extraordinary calm and tenderness feels like a direct manifestation of Bast's protective and nurturing essence.

For me, caring for and loving these two incredible creatures is more than just pet ownership. It's an act of devotion, a daily honouring of Bast. In their soft purrs, their unwavering affection, and their serene presence, I see the blessings of my matron goddess. They are living reminders of her watchful eye, her protective embrace, and her abundant love. They are, quite simply, my feline gifts from Bast.
